Real-time Google Earth
March 24th, 2007 by Randy Oxentenko
If you aren’t familiar with Google Earth, you should get it and install it on your computer. It is a fantastic resource for zooming in on interesting parts of the planet that we live on, such as the neighborhood in which you live. The satellite images that are shown in Google Earth are sometimes years old. Letting my imagination run wild, I wish you could use a real-time version of Google Earth to watch cars drive down the road, or see a person walk across the street. It would be interesting to replay archived data. For example, you could zoom in on the spot for a new neighborhood a year ago, before it was built, and watch a fast-motion view of the development of the neighborhood over the course of time. Make the year go by in about 10 minutes or so. How cool would that be? (Yes, I know, it isn’t practical, but it would still be cool.)
